Yoga Nidra “yogic sleep” is a guided meditation that brings you to the state of consciousness between being awake and asleep. While resting in a savasana or a comfortable seated position, this guided meditation will help to quiet the mind and unwind the nervous system as you take a journey through the koshas (physical, energy, mind/emotional, wisdom, and bliss) and connect to your body.
Using a combination of breath awareness, heart felt intention, sense awareness, body scanning along with imagery and visualizations, this practice allows you to explore and reconnect to your true self.
Benefits of a regular Yoga Nidra Practice:
● Improves the quality of your sleep and the amount of your sleep
● Ability to better manage chronic and acute pain
● Soothes your autonomic nervous system
● Enhances your mental focus and attention span
● Improves your creativity and whole brain functioning
● Gives you more ease and peace of mind in daily life
● Helps create new neural pathways in your brain leading to healthy habits & routines
Doors will open at 7PM and class starts promptly at 7:15PM and doors will be locked so please plan accordingly. Your Yoga Nidra Journey will last approx. 45 minutes.
Please feel free to bring your own pillow, blanket, and eye covering to make yourself as comfortable as possible.
This practice is open to all levels and no experience is required.
The art of deep complete relaxation (also called progressive relaxation) is one of the safest and most effective ways to manage stress, relieve pain, regain and maintain health and attain peace of mind. Once you are able to calm the body, then it leads to a calmer mind.
The practice will allow you to shift from your “always on” sympathetic nervous system (flight or flight) to parasympathetic nervous system (rest & digest).
The five stages of deep relaxation are aligned to the yogic Koshas which consist of:
● Annamaya (Physical Body) - connecting to your physical body, allowing it to soften and relax.
● Pranamaya (Energy Body) - noticing your breath and moving it through your body
● Manomaya (Mind, Emotion, Senses Body) - recognizing where everyday thoughts and feelings reside
● Vijnanamaya (Body of Higher Wisdom) – your intuition or knowing
● Anandamaya (Body of Joy) – state of stillness, peace, and bliss
● Relief of Stress and Anxiety
● Helps alleviate Insomnia
● Effective for treating migrations and tension headaches
● Increases blood flow and reduces muscle tension
● Deep Relaxation
The practice will begin with some gentle stretching for 5-10 minutes and then you will settle into savasana as you are guided through a deep relaxation.
This class will begin at 7:15PM and last approximately 45 minutes.
